About the Item
This rare and iconic clutch bag, in the realm of vintage and collectable handbags, made for Saks Fifth Avenue by Josef, is crowned with an exuberant and baroque frame/clasp, made by the celebrated jewellery manufacturer Hobe, set with sapphire glass cabuchons, pink, clear and mid blue stones of various shapes and sizes (each stone is 'bezel' set), and extravagant gilt metal work supporting and surrounding the stones, all set on a hand beaded (micro beading) soft bag, with compartments/pockets inside the bag, and two sapphire cabuchons on each hinge at the side of the clutch. Very few of these particular frames were manufactured. It is dynamic! - the quality and craftsmanship of the highest quality.
Josef, an American company, not to be confused with the celebrated jewellery manufacturer, imported bags both from Europe, and also bought within the USA, throughout the 1930s to the 1950s, often combining European and American skill and craftsmanship, creating bags made for day wear, as well as heavily beaded and ornate evening bags.

- Material Notes:There are some slight stains and colour variation, as shown in the photos, due, most likely to stains on the fabric underneath, not to the beads. There is no bead loss . The beading is fully intact.
- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. There is some slight 'staining' or marks both in the beading and the edging of the lining, consistent with age (visible in the photos), but barely noticeable when worn. The measurements are taken at the widest/longest, highest points.
